What best describes your situation?

I have an ABN AMRO Credit Card, but I don’t yet have a Gold Card

  1. You can apply for a Gold Card online from International Card Services (ICS). Simply log in to your account and go to ‘Personal details and settings’. Click ‘Upgrade Card’ on the left of the screen.
  2. ICS will then verify your request and upgrade your credit card if your application is approved. As this is a new product, your new card will have a new card number.
  3. ICS will send you an email telling you how to set your PIN – you can use the same PIN as your current card if you wish. Once you have set your PIN, you will receive your Gold Card at your home address within 5 working days.
  4. Your Preferred Banking discount won’t be immediately visible in your application, but it will be automatically applied to the next monthly debits of the card fees from your bank account.

Please note: We are currently experiencing technical issues with the credit card application. You may see an error message. ICS is working on a solution.

I don’t have an ABN AMRO Credit Card yet

  1. You can apply for a Gold Card by following the standard online procedure. Remember to check your details and make sure they are complete. The last step is to send your application.
  2. International Card Services (ICS) will send you an email telling you how to set your PIN. ICS will verify your application in the meantime, which takes about 10 working days.
  3. Once you have set your PIN and your application has been approved, you will receive your Gold Card at your home address within 5 to 10 working days.
  4. Your Preferred Banking discount won’t be immediately visible in your application, but it will be automatically applied to the monthly debits of the card fees from your bank account. You will pay the standard ABN AMRO Credit Card fee for your Gold Card (€2.05 a month).
I already have an ABN AMRO Gold Card

You don’t need to do anything. As soon as you are invited to become a Preferred Banking client, you are eligible for the discount. The credit card fees will be debited monthly, and the discount will be applied automatically (as long as you are a Preferred Banking client).

The ABN AMRO Student Credit Card cannot be upgraded to a Gold Card.

I already have an ABN AMRO Gold Card, what now?

You are still entitled to the discount. As soon as you are invited to become a Preferred Banking client, you are eligible for the discount. The credit card fees will be debited monthly, and the discount will be applied automatically (as long as you are a Preferred Banking client).

I have an ABN AMRO Credit Card and an additional card. Will that additional card be upgraded as well?

Yes. If you apply for the free upgrade of your ABN AMRO Credit Card to a Gold Card, your additional card will also be upgraded and will also be eligible for the discount for Preferred Banking clients. You will pay a monthly fee of €1 for the additional card.

Can I upgrade a Visa Card?

As the discount applies only to the ABN AMRO Gold Card, you’ll first need to cancel your Visa Card before applying for an ABN AMRO Gold Card. You will receive the discount if you meet the criteria under ‘Who is this offer open to?’

What happens if I stop being a Preferred Banking client?

You won’t be entitled to the discount if you’re no longer a Preferred Banking client. You’ll be given the option to keep the Gold Card and pay the standard fee or downgrade to the standard Credit Card.

What is the spending limit on a Gold Card?

If you already have an ABN AMRO Credit Card, your current spending limit will also apply to your upgraded Gold Card.

If you need to raise your spending limit for a short period, you can simply transfer money to your Gold Card account.

However, you may want to raise your limit permanently, in which case you can arrange this through Creditcard Online.

If you don’t have an ABN AMRO Gold Card yet, ICS will assign you a spending limit based on the financial information you disclose. The maximum Gold Card spending limit is €5,000 per month.

How does the Gold Card’s purchase protection work?

All purchases you make with your Gold Card are insured against theft, loss and damage for 365 days, whether you made the purchase online or in a shop.

Need to submit a claim?

  1. Please call  ABN AMRO Creditcard Services  to submit a claim. They will check whether or not your loss or damage is covered.
  2. If your loss or damage is covered, you will receive a claim form.
  3. Please send the claim form to ABN AMRO Verzekeringen. They will process your claim
  4. and let you know within 2 weeks whether your claim has been accepted and, if so, the amount of the payout.

Your excess is €50, meaning that if the insurer pays out, you will still need to cover the first €50 yourself.

How does the discount and invoicing process work?

The discount of €2.20 per month is the difference between the fees for the ABN AMRO Gold Card and the fees for the ABN AMRO Credit Card. You will continue to pay the standard fee of €2.05 per month instead of €4.25, as long as you’re a Preferred Banking client.

As you’re a Preferred Banking client, you will automatically benefit from the discount when you apply for a Gold Card. We will automatically apply the discount to the subsequent debits of your monthly card fees.

How can I cancel my Gold Card?

These could be:
  • payments that are linked to a payment account such as PayPal or Apple Pay

  • websites and apps like Uber, Booking.com and Airbnb
