Frequently asked questions about car damage caused by vandalism
What is vandalism damage?
Vandalism is damage that is caused deliberately and without authorisation by a person. Think of punctured tyres, window damage or scratches. Damage incurred while parking or caused by another vehicle, for example, is not included in vandalism.
Does vandalism damage to my car affect my claim-free years?
Damage caused by vandalism to your car will in most cases lead to a reduction of 5 claim-free years. Your discount will decrease and you will pay a higher premium. This does not happen in the event of damage due to (attempted) burglary or theft. You keep the same number of claim-free years.
I don't know who did the damage to my car. Now what?
When do I pay excess?
Third-Party Liability Cover only covers damage you cause to other people and is therefore not subject to an excess.
With Third-Party Liability + Limited Cover and Third-Party Liability + Comprehensive Cover, you have an excess of €150 per occurrence in the event of a claim. If you have the damage to your car fixed through the ABN AMRO Claims Service, then this excess will lapse. This does not apply to window replacement, however, for which the excess is €75.
If your car is adequately secured, you do not have to pay an excess in case of theft, attempted theft, break-in or joyriding. The Motor Vehicle Certification Foundation has determined different security classes. If your car does not meet any of them, you will have an excess of 2.5% of your car's daily value and pay a minimum excess of €375.
If you have taken out the additional breakdown coverage and you get a temporary replacement car in case of damage, the rental company may have set an excess. Sometimes it is possible to reduce this excess for a fee.
